Aryna Sabalenka Expresses Disappointment Over Paula Badosa’s Withdrawal from Madrid Open

Aryna Sabalenka has shared her sadness regarding Paula Badosa’s recent withdrawal from the Madrid Open. The Spanish player, unfortunately, had to pull out of the tournament due to injury, and Sabalenka expressed her heartfelt sympathy for Badosa’s situation.

In a statement, Sabalenka explained that she was disappointed Badosa wouldn’t be able to compete in front of her home crowd:

“I’m really sad that she can’t play in front of her people. I wish her a quick recovery. It was better to stop and deal with it, hopefully, she’ll be 100% soon,” Sabalenka said.”

While Sabalenka’s empathy was evident, she also found a way to inject some humor into the situation. Speaking fondly of her friendship with Badosa, Sabalenka joked about their attempts at teaching each other new languages:

“Gracias, Madrid. Vamos! The truth is Paula doesn’t teach me Spanish. She doesn’t believe in me,” Sabalenka joked with a smile, referring to Badosa’s playful skepticism regarding Sabalenka’s Spanish skills.

Both Sabalenka and Badosa have built a strong rapport over the years, often exchanging light-hearted moments and mutual support on and off the court.
